Newsletter/Blog 2024-11-01 CBAR Newsflash November 2024 Dear Valued CBAR clients, 2024 is almost in the final stretch and summer is upon the city bowl residents once again. The South Easterly wind, our prominent summer wind, starts to blow again and was measured a week ago at over 115 km/h in the foreshore. These winds also create unnecessary alarm activations, especially on outdoor detectors that have foliage near them. If you have been notified by our Monitoring Centre of alarm activations on outdoor detectors, kindly trim back the foliage that may be close enough to trigger these detectors. Please ensure that windows are not left open when the alarm is armed, as the wind intensity often increases in the afternoons causing curtains to move around. This is turn will trigger many types of indoor motion sensors. The month of November also marks a full year in which CBAR’s Camera Response Unit has been in operation. One only has to visit our website on www.cbar.co.za and check our crime statistics, which is updated every Friday, to see the impact it has had by the number of arrests made by this unit. This Camera Response Unit, that now responds to a few hundred cameras, has proven its value time and again by the number of physical arrests and the speed in which alerts are responded to. Please note that the Camera Response Unit is an additional paid for service, providing an additional layer of security over and above Alarm Monitoring and Armed Reaction. CBAR responds to camera alerts for individual households, commercial properties, as well as many street projects throughout the City Bowl area. Should you want more information on Camera Response, please email customerservice@cbar.co.za. CBAR has received calls from some of its clients requesting that they are NOT to be phoned for the TAMPER SIGNALS that are generated by their alarm systems. CBAR is a corporate member of SAIDSA. This is the South African Intruder Detection Services Association. As per Bylaw 5, a tamper signal is by definition: Any unauthorised entry into component parts of an alarm system and detection services. In other words, this encompasses the alarm panel and all the parts that constitute the detection equipment such as infrared detection, magnetic switches, outdoor detection devices and certain panic buttons. In layman’s terms, if the panel is fitted with a magnetic switch, once opened it will send through a tamper signal to the Monitoring Centre, as will the opening of an infrared sensor or beam. (If fitted with an end of line resistor) A tamper signal is designed to be an early warning signal that one or more components in the alarm system is physically being tampered with. If CBAR was to ignore this signal, your insurer may claim that we received this signal and failed to act on it, by NOT informing the client. This may lead to a claim being refuted due to the tamper being committed by an intruder who has tampered with an alarm component such as an outdoor sensor, before a break-in. A tamper signal is the only way that an alarm system can communicate to our Monitoring Centre that the system is being tampered with or that a particular zone may be faulty. This is the reason we do not ignore tamper signals and have the responsibility to inform our clients. Lastly, as most suppliers of alarm and CCTV electronic equipment will close for a few weeks during the December holidays, we recommend that you attend to all your security requirements timeously. Should you wish to add to your existing alarm system or consider installing security cameras in your home or business, email customerservice@cbar.co.za or call our 24-hour number on 0860 151515. Should you not wish to receive these informative newsflashes, Kindly reply “unsubscribe” to the above email address. Stay safe, CBAR is a call away. Yours sincerely Alan Kusevitsky and the CBAR team
